Pay deal for hundreds of midwives

A 15 percent pay increase for hospital midwives has been agreed on after 5 years of negotiating. The agreement covers over a thousand Midwives employed by Te Whatu Ora and has resulted in a starting wage of $73,000 with a base rate of $97,000 for more experienced midwives.

 

11 July

Second day of Auckland bus disruption as drivers continue strike action

After NZBUS drivers went out on a four hour strike on Monday, mediation between Auckland Transport and NZbus and the Union have failed to reach an agreement.

Drivers have been participating in rolling strikes in an effort to obtain a pay rise to $30 an hour, the same rate as their counterparts in other major centres.

Currently Drivers are being paid $26.76 and have been offered an increase to $28 and then $30 Next year. Strike action has been planned for the rest of the week

Lab workers strike across Wellington and South Island this week

SCL scientists, technicians and phlebotomists at medical labs from Wellington down to the bottom of the south island will be impacted strikes this week. Currently an SCL lab worker earns $82,000 per year, while an equivalent nurse now sits at $105,000 a year.

After 4 months of bargaining Westpac workers have rejected the recent pay offer – due to the record net profit earned in the previous year.

Senior doctors’ union to issue stop-work notices to discuss strike action

Senior salaried doctors and dentists are set to hold stop-work meetings to discuss potential strike action. The latest offer would have been about 3% for most members. But this fell far below the expected pay increase offer.

All Auckland Services Operated By NZ Bus To Be Suspended From 2am Friday

Auckland Transport has advised Aucklanders that all bus services are suspended. NZ buss and the Unions ( Tramways and FIRST UNION) failed to reach agreement over pay and conditions during bargaining.

The suspension affects about 35% of Aucklands Bus network.

Auckland Bus Drivers Strike: Free Fares For Matariki As Protest Continues

After a week of industrial action, drivers have announced that NZ Bus operated routes will be free for Matariki and for the rest of the week.

NZ bus drivers are wanting $30 an hour the same pay as their counterparts in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

Supermarkets are to begin negotiations for a Fair Pay Agreement.

All Auckland bus services reinstated in last-minute U-turn

NZ Bus Drivers and The unions have agreed to hold an emergency meeting over wages.

Yesterday (13th July) NZ Bus drivers had announced that they would be giving free travel for the week after Matariki weekend. That night NZ bus responded by announcing the services would be cancelled instead.

The latest pay offer that the drivers have rejected is for $31 an hour, rising to $33.20 from next April.

Te Whatu Ora nurses vote to strike ahead of ballot on latest collective agreement offer

Nurses have voted in support of a 24-hour strike, after feeling fed up with long negotiations and inadequate offers.  The offer included a pay increase of up to 6.5 percent for senior nurses and of up to 4.5 percent for registered and enrolled nurses, as well as health care and mental health care assistants.

The strike will start at 7am on August 9

 

21 July

Nurse Maude home care and support workers rally for fair pay and better working conditions

Nurse Maude home support workers are rallying in Porirua, Nelson and Christchurch to push for better pay and conditions. The offer did not include pay increases but had a lump sum payment of $350 before tax.

 

24 July

Tararua District Council workers strike for fair pay and conditions – PSA

From 1pm Monday 31 of July to through to 5pm Tuesday 1st of August, Tararua District Council workers will strike for fair pay and conditions. The strikes will extend through to October with members taking their breaks at the same time and not accepting extra hours or overtime.

 

25 July

Lab workers gearing up for second full strike

Fifty patients had to postpone their surgeries since lab workers and phlebotomists went on strike last week.

Lab workers who belong to APEX union are fighting for wages that averages around 23.5% to be on par with their counterparts working in the public sector. At mediated bargaining on 12 July Awanui made a pay offer of 5% for a one-year term.

Cleaners protest for better pay after zero offer from employers

Picketing today are cleaners from several major cleaning companies. Workers are seeking a pay increase to the living wage of $23.65, and is set to go up to $26 in September.

 

29 July

Nurses and healthcare assistants accept pay equity settlement

Nurses and healthcare assistants employed by Te Whatu Ora have voted to accept an historic pay equity settlement that will net some up to $28,000 in lump sums and backpay.

However the strike action will continue as they have yet to vote on a separate collective agreement offer.
