1 December

Otago, Victoria and Canterbury universities have accepted pay deals, union says

After months of strikes and negotiations university union members have voted to ratify their new collective agreements. For non academic staff at the universities there are increases of between 10.1% to 17.9%, whilst academic staff will get pay rises of between 3.5% to 4%.

Four universities are still to continue negotiations.

Stuff union members take strike action over pay offer

Stuff journalists have voted to strike to push for a higher pay rise in the new collective agreement.

The members have previously rejected the company’s pay offer and are asking for increases that match the cost of living increases currently.

 

Kindergarten Teachers Reject Government Offer

Kindergarten teachers have rejected their latest collective agreement offer from the ministry of education. Teachers are asking for additional and disregarded sick leave, the removal of the pay cap for relief teachers and for wages that meet the rising cost of living.

Firefighters settle year-long pay dispute with 24% wage increase

After months of strikes Firefighters agreed to settlement terms, subject to vote with 24% wage increases backdated to 2021 as well as 22% increases in allowances

Paper And Pulp Workers Locked Out In ‘Standover Tactic’ From Oji Fibre

Paper and Pulp workers at OJI Fibre had the intention to withdraw their labour and  have been met with a lock out.

 

14 December

Union Members At Fletchers’ EasySteel Win Substantial Pay Rise

Members at fletcher owned EasySteel have unanimously accepted an 8.75% increase for their new collective agreement. The union have explained the outcome is a result the members of showing conviction.

 

Thousands of nurses set for a 14% pay rise

Te Whatu Ora Nurses will now be on par with their Australian counterparts after agreement has been made for the pay rise and lump sum payments to be made March 7 2023. Some nurses will receive a more than 14% increase in their wages.

 

 

15 December

Frustrated school bus drivers eye change to public transport

School bus drivers compared to their public transport counterparts are earning less, as they are not covered by the governments $61million boost to lift drivers in the public transport sector to at least $28 per hour in regions and $30 in the main centres.

 

21 December

School Bus Funding Boost “The Best Christmas Present You Could Get”

Today the government have announced a $26 million funding to raise school bus driver wages.

 

22 December

Ministry of Justice reaches pay deal with PSA after month of disruption

After more than a month of industrial action (forced breaks at certain times of the day – courts need to be cleared out 30mins before staff breaks, leaving some courts only 2 and a half hours of sitting in court a day) Union members working for the Ministry of Justice and public service association have reached a pay agreement.
