Hamilton’s SkyCity hit by ‘world’s first’ strike of 2022 as workers demand living wage

Starting the year off with a bang, Skycity Hamilton casino workers walked off the job on 12:01am 1st of January 2022- making it the first strike of 2022

Fred A – Unite union looking for publicity. The union wanted substantial wage increases for members and parity of t’s & c’s with Sky City Auckland. They did not achieve either.

Government Must Act To Ensure Working People Stay Afloat

The PSA union are calling for the government to improve wages to counter the rising cost of living and the effects inflation is having on the community.

One suggestion is the Fair pay Agreement.

Fred A – Inflation is stirring up employee and union discontent regarding wage increases. This theme is set to become the big issue in negotiations in 2022. Expect strike activity around this issue to become common.

Kiwi truckies given green light to drive on NZ licence

Two changes have been made in Australia to alleviate the truck driving shortage over the ditch.

These changes allow NZ citizens with the heavy vehicle licence to drive in Australia

Fred A – good news for some individual drivers looking to up their pay. But the shortage of truck drivers in NZ will probably bring wages up close to AUS levels.
